Ten years ago this week, Sympathy for the devil by the Rolling Stones entered the UK singles chart at its highest position of number 14. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but remained in the top 40 for another two weeks.

Sympathy for the devil was released on the Mercury record label and was the forty-first of forty-three UK top 40 hits for the Rolling Stones. It was a remix of a track that originally appeared on the 1968 album Beggars banquet, which peaked at number 3 in the UK albums chart.

The song was also a hit for Guns ‘N’ Roses in 1995. Their cover version reached number 9 in the UK chart.
