Thirty years ago this week, Dear Prudence by Siouxsie and the Banshees reached its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 17 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 5 for a final week in the top 10. A further three weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.
Dear Prudence was released on the Wonderland record label and was the second of two UK top 10 hits for Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was not included on an album at the time but was added to later releases of Hyena, which peaked at number 15 in the UK albums chart in 1984.
The original version of the song was recorded by the Beatles in 1968. It was included on their album The Beatles (usually known as the White album), which spent eight weeks at the top of the UK albums chart and was also a US number 1.
