This week in 1983, Waterfront by Simple Minds reached its highest position of number 13, having entered the top 40 the previous week at number 25. After one week at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 40 for another five weeks and then left the chart.

Waterfront was released on the Virgin record label and was the fourth of twenty-five top 40 hits for Simple Minds in the UK. It was included on the platinum-selling album Sparkle in the rain, which spent one week at the top of the UK albums chart in 1984.
