This week in 1985, Atmosphere by Russ Abbot reached its highest position of number 7 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 40 and broke into the top 10 two weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song fell to number 8 for a final week in the top 10 and then spent the last three weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.

Atmosphere was released on the Spirit record label and was the only top 10 hit for Russ Abbot in the UK. It was included on the gold-selling album I love a party, which reached number 12 in the UK albums chart later in 1985. The single was certified silver.
