La Isla Bonita – Madonna

La isla bonita by Madonna replaced Let it be by Ferry Aid at the top of the UK singles chart this week in 1987, having entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 5. It stayed at number 1 for two weeks and then made way for Nothing’s gonna stop us now by Starship.

After falling from the top spot, the song spent another two weeks in the top 10, one of them in the top 5. It then dropped into the lower top 40 for the final three weeks of its chart life.

La isla bonita was released on the Sire record label and was the fourth number 1 hit for Madonna in the UK. It was taken from the album True blue, which spent six weeks at the top of the UK albums chart and was also a US number 1. The album was certified platinum seven times and the single was certified silver.
