Pearl’s A Singer – Elkie Brooks

Forty years ago this week, Pearl’s a singer by Elkie Brooks entered the UK top 10 at number 9, having entered the top 40 three weeks previously at number 24. After one week at number 9, the song rose to its peak position of number 8 for a week and then fell to number 10 for a final week in the top 10. A further two weeks in the lower top 40 followed before the record left the chart.

Pearl’s a singer was released on the A&M record label and was the first of three UK top 10 hits for Elkie Brooks. It was included on the gold-selling album Two days away, which reached number 16 in the UK albums chart later in 1977.
