This week in 1977, You don’t have to be a star (to be in my show) by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr reached its highest position of number 7 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 five weeks previously at number 27 and broke into the top 10 three weeks later. After one week at its peak position, the song slipped out of the top 10 and spent the final two weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.

You don’t have to be a star (to be in my show) was released on the ABC record label and was the only top 10 hit for Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr in the UK. It was taken from the album I hope we get to love in time, which did not enter the UK albums chart. The single was a US number 1.
