Fifty years ago this week, Another Saturday night by Sam Cooke reached its highest position of number 23 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 four weeks previously at number 29. After one week at its peak position, the song started to slide down the chart but stayed in the top 40 for another five weeks.

Another Saturday night was released on the RCA record label and was the seventh top 40 hit for Sam Cooke in the UK. It was taken from the album Ain’t that good news, which did not enter the UK albums chart.

In 1974, Cat Stevens recorded a cover version of the song. The new version peaked four places higher than the original at number 19.
