Eloise – Damned

The Damned took this cover version into the UK top 10 for four weeks in 1986.

Thirty years ago this week, Eloise by the Damned reached its highest position of number 3 in the UK singles chart. It had entered the top 40 two weeks previously at number 18 and broke into the top 10 a week later. After one week at its peak position, the song stayed in the top 10 for another two weeks, one of them in the top 5, and then spent the final two weeks of its chart life in the lower top 40.

Eloise was released on the MCA record label and was the only UK top 10 hit for the Damned. The original version of the song was recorded by Barry Ryan in 1968 when it reached number 2. The Damned’s cover was certified silver.
